Pukekohe Hill was a new summit added to ZL1 after LIDAR data became available confirming 150 m of prominence. This summit is a drive up so fairly easy to activate. We chose to head up on the 19th of September 2020.
There are plenty of good tree branches to use for aerial supports on the summit, so setting up the dipole was easy. You do have to be watchful of other public for where you put your antenna though as it is a popular area. We also saw plenty of rabbits hopping around near the radio mast which provided the kids plenty of entertainment.
I made 10 contacts from this summit including a summit to summit with Ian ZL3GIG on Mt Pleasant near Christchurch. Of the 10, 3 contacts were using VHF into Auckland area.
